Project description
Promoting recycling of solid urban waste
The amount of municipal waste generated per person in the EU was 500 kg in 2020. The bulk of this trash was solid urban waste (SUW), which includes product packaging, clothing, furniture, appliances and food waste, among others. However, this waste could have been recycled. The EU-funded REDOL project will pilot industrial urban symbiosis solutions to reduce waste generation and promote reusing and transforming waste into new raw resources. Specifically, REDOL will develop five value chains (packaging, plastics, construction waste, textiles and waste electrical and electronic equipment) for SUW leading to twelve different circular products. The solutions will be tested in Zaragoza, northeastern Spain, where several revolutionary methods and technologies will be used to demonstrate the approach.
