The Archipelago of South Denmark

Objectif

To develop a methodology in developing sustainable tourism and to implement a nature preservation scheme to protect threatened biotopes and to create a platform for tourism by making natural reserves of the Archipelago of South Denmark attractive. The result will be a handbook of sustainable tourist development useful to other regions in Europe.

The project will be concentrated upon developing a model for sustainable development of tourism and an in-practice execution of the model in the Archipelago of Southern Denmark. This will involve:

Formulation of an operational and working programme for the area. As part of this the following mutually dependent actions will take place.

Specific development and planning of new green and blue tourist concepts related to the social, cultural and natural resources in the area based on the active involvement of eg authorities, local interest groups, citizens, nature interest groups, and

Implementation of major mature protection schemes in selected localities including restoration of habitats and establishing new habitats. The actual restoration of important habitats is seen as a necessary action for the future preservation, but also as a precondition for growth in tourism. As part of the nature protection scheme, visitors regulations and information material will be prepared.

Based on the experiences of the project a global planning tool/methodology will be developed - 'Handbook on sustainable tourism - a model'.
