Objetivo The aim of the project is to demonstrate the effectiveness of a system using a compressional-wave seismic method where source and receivers are run into the same subhorizontal or highly deviated well. Its potential range reaches some tens of metres and its resolution is around half a metre. These characteristics are between those of borehole seismic and acoustic logs. The objective of the project is to image the reservoir boundaries, to characterize the heterogeneities and to locate contacts of fluids. The SHOW project fulfilled our obligations specified in the Thermie contract. The work was carried out within the original time schedule and the results correspond to the objectives of the project. In particular we demonstrated that a high frequency single well system can provide seismic images giving a depth of investigation of up to 50 metres away from the borehole and a resolution of about 0.3 metre. The method is a compressional wave reflection method similar to end-on shooting in the industrial surface seismic method which is adjusted to the requirements of borehole environment. The bandwidth is within the 2000 to 10,000 Hz range. In the same deviated borehole we will use devices including a piezoelectric seismic source, a tube wave attenuator and hydrophones.Data will be processed so as to show up reflections at a distance of several tens of metres with a resolution of about half a metre. Reflection images will be compared to images produced on this well-known site in the past through other methods (crosshole seismic, VSPs, synthetic seismograms, drilling data).
