GEOTHERMAL HEAT SUPPLY WITH SINGLE-BOREHOLE-CIRCULATION SYSTEM IN BAD ENDORF

Objetivo

The aim of the project is to produce thermal water for use for district heating and particularly reclamation of bathing water. The thermal water will be produced by a borehole from a depth between 2,200 and 2,500 m below surface at an amount of up to 15 l/s. The thermal water will be cooled down by primary heat exchanger and a heat pump. A small part of the water, up to 2.5 l/s, will be used as bathing water, the rest of the cooled down water will be reinjected in the same borehole at a depth between 1,800 and 2,100 m below surface. Therefore a new technology of casing and tubing in the borehole will be used. At a delivery of 15 l/s about 9,600 MWh heating energy will be produced in a year, worth about 430,000 DM. At an average use of 2.5 l/s, 8 hours a day, as bathing water, worth 10 DM/m3, the annual proceeds will be 260,000 DM. The yearly running costs will be 260.000 DM, so the payback time will be 5,600,000 DM (430,000 DM/a + 260,000 DM/a - 260,000 DM/a)= 13 a.
As seen in the last pump tests and chemical analysis, the thermal water has a content of about 1.2 m³ methan gas per m³ thermal water. This gas will be extracted from the thermal water and will be used in boilers too. Exact datas to this additional use of the thermal water can be estimated after finishing the pump test.
The drilling work has been done. A first production test was done, at a production rate of 6 l/s at a thermal water temperature of 45°C. The produced thermal contains gas at an amount of 1.2 m³ gas per m³ water.
INNOVATIVE TECHNOLOGY
* Equipping a borehole for production and reinjection of thermal water in one borehole, at different depths, at a max production rate of 15 l/s
* Installation of extraction pipes with special heat insulation
* Modelling of the hydrodynamic and thermodynamic parameters of the geothermal reservoir CONTEXT
In Bad Endorf a large clinic and a thermal bath are existing, so the heat customers are existing too. Because the bath and the clinic belong to the same company, which is the manager of the geothermal plant, there will be no problems in the use of the thermal water and energy. The borehole will be used by the clinic and the bath as follows :
delivered thermal power (heat exchange and heat pump cooling) 1,244 kW
delivered energy amount (heat exchange and heat pump cooling) 7,541 MWh/a
delivered thermal bathing water production 26,000 m3/a
ECONOMIC ASPECTS :
cost of the investment 5.67 mill DM
1. drilling work 1.78 mill DM
2. borehole installation 2.22 mill DM
3. technical system, heating plant 330,000 DM
4. operation building 350,000 DM
5. heat distribution pipes 240,000 DM
6. other costs, planning, supervision 750,000 DM
Produced thermal heat 9,635 MWh
worth 45 DM/MWh, annual proceed : 433,575 DM
Produced thermal bathing water 25,920 m3
worth 10 DM/m3, annual proceed : 259,200 DM
Running costs for monitoring, electric power a.o. : 257,000 DM/a
Payback time : 5,670,000 / (433,575 + 259,200 - 257,000) = 13 a
EU contribution : 595,894 ECU, about 1,097,636 DM
Payback time with EU contribution
(5,670,000 - 1,098,000) / (433,000 + 259,200 - 257,000) = 10.5 a
