Magnetism and superconductivity

Obiettivo

The quasiparticle density of states in the high Tc superconductors will be studied by means of point-contact tunneling spectroscopy and far infrared spectroscopy in the temperature range from 1K to 300K and in high magnetic fields up to 30 T. Among the materials special attention will be paid to the Bi2Sr2CuOx, Ba1-xKxBio3 and Nd2-xCexCuo4-y oxides where by means of the available magnetic fields the transition from the superconducting to the normal state can be studied. The magnetic field is very important for the normalization of the data in the superconducting state with the experimental resolution at low temperatures.
The density of states spectra in the superconducting as well as in the normal state of heavy fermions will be studied by means of point-contact spectroscopy at very low temperatures down to 50 mK and in high magnetic fields up to 25T. In the Institute of Experimental physics SAS a point-contact adjustment system for the top-loading dilution refrigerator will be developed.
The proposer will coordinate the research program in the group of Kosice. They will perform the tunneling, point-contact and far
infrared measurements on the high-Tc superconductors and heavy-fermion systems.
For the high field measurements the magnet facilities in Grenoble will be used as preliminary agreed with the High Magnetic Field Laboratory, Max-planck-Institut für Festkörperforschung and Centre National de la Recherche Scientifique (prof. P. Wyder and Dr. A.G.M. Jansen), and in the co-operation with the group of Dr.J.Flouquet.
