Access to supercomputing facilities for European researchers

Obiettivo

The objective of this complementary proposal is to provide access to an advanced computing infrastructure recently created in Catalunya for researchers and young scientists from easter European universities in the use of high performance computers for the solution of scientific and technological problems. The present proposal is based on the use of the high end computing facilities offered jointly by the
Supercomputation Center of catalunya (CESCA) and the
European Center for Parallelism of Barcelona (CEPBA) as an effective mechanism for
1) promoting collaborative research involving young scientists from different European countries, and
2) the training of young European scientists in the use of supercomputers. To achieve above objectives a number of R and D projects have been selected involving scientists from universities and research centers of different European countries. The success in the development of these projects will heavily rely in the use of the supercomputation facilities available at CES & CEPBA. It is expected that as result of this initiative a number of scientists and engineers from European countries will be made aware of and become familiar with advanced techniques such as physical modelling, simulation, multidimensional interactive graphics and scientific data visualization, vector and parallel programming compilers, operating systems and libraries, in order to be able to tackle large, complex problems and applications in supercomputers.
