Abiotic photodegradation of chemicals (herbicides-pesticides-insecticides) in aqueous solution and natural water

Objectif

The objective is to develop novel analytical methods for determining and monitoring the abiotic degradation of chemicals.

The degradation pathways and reaction mechanisms of herbicides, insecticides and fungicides are investigated in different solvents. The project includes various phases as follows:
development of a procedure for abiotic degradation with high performance liquid chromatography(HPLC) analysis;
exchange of the organic solvent with pure water and comparison of the degradation patterns in aqueous solution with those obtained in organic solvents;
analysis of the degradation process by HPLC;
irradiation experiments in aqueous solution containing titanium oxide particles;
and study of additional classes of pesticides for a deeper insight into abiotic photodegradation processes of organic chemicals and for a new test system on this class of compounds.

It is planned to establish a library of the individual degradation patterns and to have a critical assessment of the predictive value of other existing test methods.
