Accident prevention of metalorganic precursors

Cel

is to completely prevent accidents during production, storage, handling, transportation and shipping of metalorganics widely used as precursors for complex compounds of semiconductor materials for electronics and optoelectronic applications.

The materials considered are trimethylindium and adducts, triethylgallium as well as impure trimethylindium and trimethylamin alane (all pyrophoric and more or less toxic). The research tasks will conclude in the establishment of a rigorous scientific understanding of the physical and chemical properties of these new chemicals through in-depth studies regarding their thermo-stability and kinetics of combustion. Main achievements will be new concepts for transport and handling, modification of the production processes or changes of the infrastructure of the plant to achieve complete prevention of accidents.

A full understanding of the properties of a range of metalorganic MOVPE and CBE precursors will be gained. In view of the projected large-scale requirement for compounds such as trimethylgallium, triethylindium and triethylgallium, the thermodynamics of the production processes need to be investigated to ensure accident prevention in production, handling storage, transporting and shipping.
