Intercomparisons and training in metrology for the newer member countries

Objective

The Newer Member States are rapidly developing their metrological infrastructures. Traceability of measurements of the Spanish, Portuguese and Irish national metrology laboratories to those of the more established national metrology laboratories is an essential prerequisite for harmonised measurement results throughout the European Union. The objective of the project is therefore to establish and demonstrate the traceability in fields where it is most urgently required. This will be undertaken through 13 intercomparisons covering mass, pressure, volume, length, temperature of fixed points, temperature radiation scales, wavelength, DC and AC voltage, AC current, resistance, and capacitance. In addition, 4 training courses aimed at the improvement of the skills of technicians working in metrology will be undertaken (calibration of three coordinate measuring machines, the measurement of force using a dead weight machine and the calibration of force measurement standards, laboratory accreditation, verification of alcohol breath analyzers)
