Development of a pilot inter-active, multi-media, computer-based training package for the paper industry

Objectif

To develop a multi-media training aid that will enable the operator to see via simulation what is happening to the fibres during the refining process under varying conditions.
A multi-media training package that will encourage learner interaction will be developed and available at the end of the project.
The production and field testing of a computer-based multi-lingual, interactive multi-media training package describing the purpose, action, operation and optimal control of a paper refining fibrillation machine. Information in the form of text and speech will be reinforced by visual demonstrations using animation, graphics and video. User interaction will be via a graphical user interface.

The elements of the package are:
* description of relevant mechanisms;
* description of operation such as effects of entry conditions and water content;
* passive and active controls;
* services such as water, energy and electricity;
* preventive maintenance;
* hazards;
* heat recovery;
* what if? .. eg different fibres, off-specification operation, breakdown, diagnostics, warnings, effects on running costs.
