Objective The proposed research project concerns the second step of the JUPITER reduction melting process, the first step of which is the subject of a current pilot project. The aim of the research is to determine the feasibility and the main features of this melting step, taking into account the very specific composition of the JUPITER pre-reduced ore (about 80% iron metallization, 5% to 10% C).The features to be investigated concern mainly: - the type of energy to be used: i.e. coal or electricity; - the material feeding technique; - the metallurgical process. It is also intended to develop numerical simulation codes (heat transfer, melting kinetics, metallurgical route), which are very flexible concerning raw materials and energy types.
