Objectif Hot rolling is a crucial step in steel production, and as a consequence is the subject of major efforts to model the process, thereby identifying and testing potential improvements to the processing with less recourse to expensive plant trials. The current project, involving twelve partners, comprises three linked parts:1) Modelling phase transformation in wrought steels (C Mn, HSLA, acicular ferrite and IF steels);2) Experimental investigation of friction at the roll-metal interface in hot rolling;3) Extension and validation of finite elements models of multi-pass hot rolling (including modules/data from parts 1) and 2)).
