European institute in the logical Foundations of Computer Science

Objectif



The proposal is to set up well-structured, solid and long-lasting links between Warsaw and EUROFOCS, to support foundational research in computer science, to transfer research between the sites and to promote the training of young researchers. The overall long-term goal of the research is to establish practical frameworks for the modular development, validation and maintenance of complex computing systems and software. The basic ingredients of such a framework are mathematical foundations, pragmatic methodologies, and effective support tools. The proposal addresses the first of these ingredients: Mathematical foundations. applying and developing ideas of mathematical logic and allied areas, such as type theory and category theory,Warsaw and EUROFOCS will establish deeper scientific understanding and contribute to building a proper basis for more practically oriented work.
The proposed research is directly in acc0rd with the scientific aims of the EUROFOCS network. The warsaw site will particularly contribute to: formal development of programs and systems; logic and type theory; functional programming theory; lambda-calculus; logic programming theory; and concurrency theory. warsaw and eurofocs plan: visits to poland of senior scientists from other sites; short visits of warsaw researchers to eurofocs sites; and fellowships to support stays of polish researchers - particularily post-docs - at other sites of the network. We further plan to improve Warsaw network access (and so electronic research publication access) and - link in with the planned EUROFOCS information structure.
