Objective The goal of the research project is to quantify and understand the effects of hybridisation between Atlantic salmon and brown trout, particularly as it relates to escapes from aquaculture. The specific objectives are to (1) quantify interspecific hybridisation and introgression in unspoiled and genetically polluted rivers, (2) identify mecanisms of hybridisation between Atlantic salmon and brown trout, and (3) quantify the performance of F1 hybrids through various parts of the life cycle. Finally, we will address implications of hybridisation and introgression for fitness of natural populations of Atlantic salmon and brown trout.
