Harmonisation of fire safety test methods on conveyor belting for use underground in the C.E.C

Obiettivo

C.E.N. Technical Committee 188, Working Group 3, 'Safety', have been working on the development of a Harmonised Standard of Safety for conveyor Belting for Use in Underground Coal Mines with the C.E.C.

Resulting from this work, it has become apparent there are significant differences in the methods of test for the fire resistance of conveyor belting within the member countries which could prove to be an effective barrier to trade.

The objective of the Research Programme is to harmonise within the C.E.C. the methods of test for conveyor belt fire resistance with no erosion of the high standards of safety in each of the member countries.

There are four differing large scale flammability tests in use in the C.E.C. as applied in Belgium, France, Germany and the U.K. Each will carry out flammability tests in accordance with their specification on eight conveyor belts of different types, 60 metres of each of two types to be supplied by each country.
