Cel Mechanized drivages in thin seams are equipped with 'Boom Miner' selective heading machines.Conventional dust control methods are not entirely satisfactory, as a minimum cross-section is required for dedusters, no machine-mounted systems for spraying the dust at source are availabe, and the necessary seam conditons do not exist (water infusion). The purpose of the research is to develop:- a dust suction system situated at the heading face- a system for spraying foam on the cutting drum. The systems using embarked dust filters are not adapted to the geometrical conditions of the in steep seams mechanized drifts.A drawing ventilation system with exhausting fan and dust filter set in primary air using light and smooth ducts seems well adapted (effective as soon as the drift begins, no difficulty in transporting of material, easy worker's circulation). The operational development of such a system is to consider, notably including the devices and processes:- to control and watch over the good functioning of the installation, according to the firedamp conditons of the working site,- to control posible dust deposits in the ventilation line.Carrying out that solution should significantly reduce the dust concentration at the working site, while the conditions of worker's circulation and material transport are maintained. The coal drifts in the steep seams of the Houilleres du Bassin de Lorraine have a lenth of 400 m maximum in seams whose thickness is between 2 and 5 m (an average of 3,50 m) and whose incline is between 60 degrees and 90 degrees. These galleries are driven in order to begin the extraction by horizontal rising slices and hydraulic stowing with sand. The support system used in those drifts looks like, in its principle, the ones used while slices are in working. Therefore the particular section of those drifts does not offer the same possibilities in use of dust control equipments as the one of the development works for long walls.A simple light and suitable mechanization has been developed, using the ANDERSON Boom-Miner.
