After the recent political changes in Middle and Eastern Europe, constantly growing claims to the development of health care management and related educational processes have been appeared in the financially handicapped Eastern European countries, in particularely in Russia and the former Soviet Union States (NIS).

The ESGE Governing Board decided to organize an authorative common education and research meeting for opinion leaders of 11 states ( Bulgaria, Croatia, Esthonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Romania, Russia,Slovakia, Slovenia, Ukraina, Yougoslavia). This meeting might establish the ground of further postgraduate education conferences to be held in these states and linking to the Western European educational telematic networks to strengthen research and educational possibilities, to make easier introducing the EU scientific standards and quality control, including the following advantages :

- High level information technology, including opportunities based on interactive multimedia technologies, mastery of the scientific, educational and organizational activities in the above mentioned countries.
- Education of participants on the field of basic and clinical gastroenterological research including Good Clinical Practice {GCP} requirements knowledges in biomedical ethics criteria of the participation in international multicenter clinicopharnacological trials basic information in cost / risk / benefit features
- This completely new form of this education technology course will be conducted by several experts from EU countries, who will be aided by highly skilled co-workers from Hungary, Poland and Czech Republic. Multilingual proceedings, progress facilities of telematic network and distance learning applications, introduction of mechanic and electronic training methods in the teaching process are provided.
- This ESGE action represents a new approach in the initiation of centraland Eastern European gastroenterologists into the scientific circulation of European Union: it means the first step of the information-technology rapprochement and didactic-theorethical transformation in educational way of thinking.
