Objectif Fieldbus is a major strategic technology for real-time communication in Industrial Control & Manufacturing enterprises. The IEC standard is making good progress and several field trials have taken place for parts of the emerging standard. The Fieldbus Foundation is also actively promoting progress and co-operation with the IEC. The FUNCIM project will support and assist the Fieldbus standardisation programme in two areas. The FUNCIM project will support and assist the Fieldbus standardisation programme in two areas: development, test and demonstration of CIM function blocks to extend and enhance available function block capability in standards committees development, test and demonstration of a universal terminal for configuring and commissioning Fieldbus devices. Two demonstrations are planned for 1995, one in Bulgaria, and one at a European Fieldbus trial site. Participation and demonstration at European trade exhibitions is also foreseen. Results of this work will be reported in the main Fieldbus standards committees to accelerate production and acceptance of a good Fieldbus standard supporting the CIM markets.PROGRESS AND RESULTS At the start of 1995, the project team has demonstrated several function blocks in a host PC environment and an operator interface structure for the universal terminal. Negotiations are proceeding to select and utilise a suitable "Fieldbus Stack" to use as interface for tests and demonstrations of existing and future function blocks. INFORMATION DISSEMINATION ACTIVITIES FUNCIM is co-operating with the IEC and ISA Function Block groups to assist their specification and documentation process.
