REGENERATIVE BURNERS NOVEL APPLICATION : GLASS REFINERS

Objetivo

The aim of the project is to demonstrate the energy efficiency of a heat reclamation system by regenerative burners, applied to the glass industry. There are expected savings by 60%, (i.e. less 4 years' payback).
There are some experiences on this type of equipment in the aluminium and steel industrial sectors, but there is not any known installation demonstrated at industrial scale in the glass industry in the EC.L%

The project consists of the installation of two novel design regenerative burners in a fully new application: glass refiners. (Nominal power: 250.000 Kcal/h).
The equipment basically comprises :
- Two regenerative burners with regenerative beds' quick cleaning devices and ZAG lining.
- Cyclic valves for air, gas and flue gas, inclusive their control devices.
- Software for cycle programmation
- Light starting and fire detection system.
- Exhausting fan.
- Control devices for:
* Air-gas ratio (pneumatic control)
* Temperature (controlled by microprocessor)
* Flue gas temperature (controlled by microprocessor)
* Pressure into the tank (controlled by microprocessor)
- Electric installation, including fan's motor starting draining and sequence starting devices, safeties and lockings, regulators for aformentioned control devices, regenerative cycle control device and alarms.
A complete regenerative burner consists of a couple of burners, each one fitted to a ceramic regenerator. Each burner plays a double role, also working as gate and the flue products exhausitng conduct of the tank chamber. So, complete regenerative burner comprises two burners with their regenerators, its cyclic valves and its logic controls for cyclic inversion.
As can be seen, while one burner is firing, using, cold air reaching the burner through the regenerative bed, from bottom to top (being preheated in such a way), the other burner sucks up the flue gas, through its regenerative bed, in opposite direction.
These circuits are cyclically inverted so that the cold air now goes through the regenerative bed that was being passed the flue gas the former cycle. Simultaneously, the flue gas is exhausted in the other burner, transferring its heat to this burner's bed, for giving it back to the refiner next cycle.
Direct connection between each burner and its regenerator prevents the use of valves shile there are very high temperature flows. Cyclic valves for both air and gas feeding and flue gas exhausting are pneumatically activated valves in connection with pneumatic distributors as well as with a logician circuit to programme the inversion each predetermined period of time. This cyclic inversion system is independent from any other tank's control device, except fire protection system, which must be coordinated with burner's cycle.
