ENERGY AND RAW MATERIALS EFFICIENT OPEN-WIDTH BLEACHING AND WASHING RANGE

Ziel

Demonstration and optimization of the "energy and raw material efficient continuous open width bleaching and washing range" developed by the firm Brugman on behalf of the textile industry. This open width washing machine, tested exclusively in an experimental set-up (2 compartment machine) by Brugman and TNO, is planed to be installed as a demonstration project at the firm Jose Machado de Almeida Ca. Lda. in Portugal.
The aim of the project is to verify the energy and raw material savings results, obtained during the experimental (2-compartment) set-up in a 6-compartment machine integrated into the regular production process.
Savings to be verified :
- consumption of process water
- consumption of steam
- consumption of chemicals
- consumption of electrical energy
- consumption of drying energy
- ventilation and related space heating
The payback is calculated for this project is three years. This payabck time has also to be verified.L%

Demonstration project in co-operation with the firm Jose Machado de Almeida & Ca. Lda. First, it must be determined with location of the firm Jose Machado de Almeida offers the best possibilities for the installation of the continuous open-width bleaching and washing range. Next, the technical consequences of such an implementation must be investigated.
The greatest attention will be focused on verification of the innovatory energy saving elements, ergonomic aspects and the total energy and raw material efficiency of the machine. The following points can be considered with respect to energy and raw material savings :
- verification of the optimal diameter for the cloth guiding roller in the 6-compartment continuous open-width bleaching and washing range.
An optimum must be achieved within the field of tension encompassing a good fabric transport, low fabric tension and an optimal flow effect of the wash-water.
- verification of the real washing effect and the exact reduction of the amount of process water achieved by using top squeezing units on the upper rollers.
- verification of the improvement of total washing efficiency and energy consumption by using high/low bath level. - verification of the effectiveness of a separate AC-drive regulates one or more fabric tension sensors on the bottom rollers. The pendulem compensator, adversely effective on the fabric flow, is eliminated by application of the AC-drive and the installation of tension sensors.
- verification of the exact reduction of electrical power consumption as a result of improved bearings of the cloth guiding rollers.
- verification of the savings on the consumption of chemicals brought about by effective dosage by means of sensors controlled by ATC automation programs.
- verification of the effectiveness of the squeezing unit in the closed compartment concept of the new continuous open width bleaching and washing range. This prevents the fabric from being cooled off by ambient air after eachwashing. - verification of the effectiveness and reliability of the multi-port valves designed by Brugman, whereby it is possible to conduct contaminated and clean water, as well as warm and cold waste water via different water circuits. The points outline above will be evaluated separately as well as in relation to each other when the newly developed 6-compartment continuous open-width bleaching/washing range is installed at the textile firm Jose Machado de Almeida Ca. Lda.
In addition to energy and environmental friendly aspects, attentions will also be paid to user-friendliness on such points as :
- cleaning of the machine
- optimal accessibility
- high level of automation-friendliness
- uncomplicated integration possibilities for sensors important from the viewpoint of energy and environmental issues.
- maximum use of high quality materials ensuring a maximum life of the machine with a minimum of repairs.
