10 MW DEMONSTRATION WIND PARK IN PORTUGAL

Objectif

Implementation of a 10 MW demonstration wind park in Portugal. It is the aim of the project to demonstrate :
- the prospects of using big wind turbines (500 kW) at a wind farm in Portugal
- how the big wind turbines will be produced in a hot climate and behave under special wind conditions
- how so big wind turbines will work in the electric grid
- that it is possible to disseminate the wind power
- that the economy can be feasible
- that it is possible to build big wind farms without destroying the landscape.

The demonstration project includes the design, construction and operation of an 10 MW wind farm on a site near Vila do Bispo in the southern part of Portugal.
The wind farm will consist of 20 wind turbines of a size of 500 kW. The wind turbines will be manufactured by Vestas, Danish Wind Technology and the type will be V39. The wind turbines will be working in a hot climate and under special wind conditions. The produced electricity will be delivered at a new 60/15 kV transformer station built and financed by the project.
The produced energy will be sold to Electricidade de Portugal, S.A. (EDP).
The owner, and responsible for operation and maintenance will be ELKRAFT Consult Sucursal, Portugal.
The wind farm will be an innovative aspect, because it will be the first time a wind farm consisting of 20 units of pitch regulated 500 kW wind turbines, will be erected in Portugal.
