A survey of the needs and behaviour of households in Denmark and Schleswig Holstein with the purpose of incorporating DSM in consultancy programmes

Objetivo

The main purpose is to develop an imperical- founded theory about different segments of households' needs and behaviour which determine their inclinations towards energy savings. The identification will thus help to give an idea of the direction and contents of a more goal orientated promotion of energy savings tailored to the different segments.

Most of the work burden of the project is laid in interviews with approximately 1200 persons representing households in Schleswig-Holstein and Denmark. The households in both Schleswig-Holstein and Denmark are asked around 120 questions, dealing with their values, norms, behaviour, and every day life. In both regions this task is carried out in close cooperation with two local utility companies. The Schleswag is covering half the electricity consumed and one third of the gas in the households in Schleswig- Holstein and Odense Kommunale Værker in Odense, the third largest town in Denmark. Thus, the survey in Schleswig-Holstein is covering households in the whole region of Schleswig-Holstein while the Danish survey is only covering a local area. These differences should, however, be of no importance to the comparison part of the project.
