Objetivo The aim of the project is to implement the use of multi-lateral techniques for oil and gas exploration in a typical North Sea Operation. This will allow access to multiple targets in a reservoir from a single primary wellbore. The prime objectives are to drill a twin-target well with the lateral connected to and hydraulically isolated from the parent well. Re-entry into the lateral thru-tubing for perforating, etc. must also be possible. Accomplishment of these objectives should significantly lower the cost of oil and gas production. The results obtained to date include the well location and target selection, completion design, design of downhole tools and procedures. Reporting, staffing, training, installation and commissioning of the junction and the lateral wellbore, perforating, scale squeezing and production testing. The results to date indicate that the junction integrity is maintained & that production from the combined well bores performs as predicted. This project can be described as the installation of a multi-lateral well into an existing reservoir in the North Sea. This multi-lateral well will be constructed by means of a multi-lateral junction system that can be installed into a new or existing well. This system contains a permanent packer and hollow whipstock that give positive depth and orientation control required to successfully re-enter a lateral drilled from a parent well bore. This system also possesses hydraulic isolation between the parent well and lateral by means of a specialised sealant material specifically developed for this application. The results from this project can be applied to any new or existing well that is drilled. The cost savings in well construction resulting from the elimination of the "top of hole" costs improves the economics of reservoir development worldwide.
