Development of societal mechanisms and management for the establishment, implementation and maintenance of sustainable production programmes at the local level.

Objectif

To develop new methodologies in support of cooperative, networking and self-sustaining activities in the cities. To identify generic "Success-factors" of local or regional programmes for the promotion and dissemination of Sustainable Production.

OBJECTIVES:
To develop new methodologies in support of cooperative, networking and self-sustaining activities in the cities. To identify generic "Successfactors" of local or regional programmes for the promotion and dissemination of Sustainable Production.
DESCRIPTION:
During recent years, a number of initiatives have been developed in the field of cleaner production and eco-technologies in different cities and regions. These have been successful to a varying degree in terms of practical results, but also in terms of more general dissemination. This project extracts and analyzes the "success-factors" from these initiatives. Special emphasis is put on the identification of those parameters that can be transferred from one country to the other ("system-independent"), and on those that are locally specific ("system dependent").
The project consists of six workpackages:
i) Comprehensive evaluation of cleaner production programmes of five different European states;
ii) develop a new concept for Sustainable Production Programmes for Cities taking into account the social-economic surrounding;
iii) test of the concept in case studies with SMEs in five European cities on the levels of establishment, implementation and maintenance; iv) integration of the symbiosis approach into a new concept taking into account the network of SMEs in the cities;
v) test of the developed concept and continuation of case studies. Possibilities of co-operation (exchange activities) between SMEs; vi) guidelines for Sustainable Production Systems in European Cities.
The novelty of the project is the application of the Cleaner Production methodology to the level of clusters of companies and to the city. Through the use of a societal networking approach the project will provide a framework for diffusion and implementation of sustainable production programmes in cities.
