Cel The objectives of the project are threefold: to improve communication between the Belorussian, Russian and Ukrainian members of the International Committee of Slavists by providing them with direct e-mail connections to international networks; to provide a stimulus to studies in Slavic linguistics by providing computer equipment for the transfer of information on card and text files to a computerised database to three Commissions of the International Committee of Slavists and the Biblical Commission; to provide an extra stimulus, much needed in a field virtually neglected for the past seventy years, to a fourth Commission, namely the Biblical Commission, by organizing a workshop of the Biblical Commission at Vilnius, where there are important holdings of Slavic manuscripts and early imprints. The International Committee of Slavists is the main international organization in the field of Slavic studies formed by representatives of 35 national committees of Slavists. One major task concerns the stimulation of Slavic studies by organizing topical research and publication, to which end it has set up 26 Commissions, responsible for co-ordinating endeavours in various disciplines in this area.
