Tunnelling of magnetization and electron tunnelling that depends upon magnetization in mesoscopic objects

Objective

This research is devoted to investigations on tunnelling phenomena such as magnetic moment and electron tunnelling which depend upon magnetisation. Magnetostochastic resonance techniques will be used which show a sharp rise of a bistable system response on a periodic magnetic field due to tunnelling between energy minima.

The research will consist in developing magnetostochastic resonance theory; to observe magnetic tunnelling peculiarities in bistable systems; and to produce and investigate regular arrays of identical magnetic particles with superior magnetic characteristics.

It is then hoped to form a better understanding of the quantum behaviour of macroscopic magnetic particles, to verify the possibility of spin detection on an atomic scale and to test the possibility of the production of materials with sharp magnetic characteristics.
