Network in theoretical physics between the European Union and the NIS

Ziel

The Network comprises three independent strands of research in theoretical physics, each of which forms a sub-network. These strands are: quantum chromodynamics and low-energy hadronic physics; quantum chromodynamics in its non-perturbative regime; from hadron structure to the quark-gluon plasma and the anomaly in quantum electrodynamics and quantum chromodynamics.

The common feature in this research is that each sub-network involves the St Petersburg group; the research team of Köbenhavn will take responsibility as team manager for the first strand; the team of Saclay will take responsibility for the second strand. The group of Sussex will take responsibility for the third strand.

The Network as a whole involves 7 participants from the west Europe, together with 3 participants from Russia and from Armenia, Georgia and Ukraine. Moreover, several western institutions are willing to host physicists from the NIS under the facilities set up by the Network.

In addition to normal networking activities there are two special features of the Network: the first will be the holding of a workshop for young physicists at the European Centre for Theoretical Studies in Nuclear Physics and Related Areas at Trento, Italy, and the second will be for young physicists from Georgia and Armenia who are working in especially difficult conditions at present to visit PNPI for substantial periods.
