Cel The project will extend the existing 512 kbps satellite network between DESY in Hamburg and various research institutes in the Moscow region to three further sites in Gatchina, Minsk, and Novosibirsk. Each site will be equipped with a satellite ground station, a CISCO router, and a workstation to serve as a building block for scientific data exchange with the West and between the NIS institutes. Russian satellite technology is used which is available at attractive prices. All purchased equipment will be deployed in the NIS. Traffic beyond DESY to the rest of the Internet will be routed over existing networks (DFN and Dante).
