Cel Non-linear optical (NLO) properties allow materials to be used as frequency converters and modulators. They have a wide range of applications which include optical data storage, communications and optical computing systems. There is a constant search by chemists for more easily accessible, low-cost, stable new materials which can be readily made into devices and have increased NLO properties. Organic molecules with extended conjugation have been shown to offer gains over simple inorganic systems and an attempt will be made to combine the functional types and explore the organo-metallic regime further. In the framework of this project, several organometallic compunds e.g. new ferrocene derivatives, organic gold complexes and cyclic organic derivatives of Group IV elements will be synthesized. Additional calculations will be made as well as identification with crystallography and diffraction measurments.
