Dynamics of weakly bound complexes and simple atmospheric molecules scalar and vector properties

Objetivo

The project aims at combining experimental studies with theoretical of molecular photodissociation, it is hoped to achieve detailed knowledge of the molecular systems themselves and of the radiation-matter interaction at low intensity laser field regime. To this end, magnitudes like predissociation rates and quantum distributions of the fragments constitute valuable information. Also, the correlation among polarizations of light, spatial orientation of the exiting fragments and angular momentum vectors, i.e. vector properties, will provide a more profound understanding of the dissociation dynamics and inform about the features of the states actually involved, e.g. symmetries through selection or propensity rules, couplings of internal degrees of freedom. In addition, orientated fragments are of particular interest in chemical reactivity since they are being used as reactants producing a remarkable increase in the efficiency of the reaction.

Starting with diatomic molecules and weakly bound rare gas atom-diatomic molecule van der Waals complexes, these studies will be extended towards more complicated systems such as rare gas clusters doped with diatomics, matching gas and condensed matter phases, and finally atmospheric molecules-involving stronger, chemical bonds-where the interaction with light plays a main role.
