Cel The thermoplastic image registration combines the advantages of the photographic image registration (high resolution, a large number of image elements in an image line, no need to use additional storage devices) with those of the optoelectronic image registration (the capability to read out data in a short time and to use the same material for registration of a new image). A deficiency in the thermoplastic materials (TM) which prevents their wide use for image registration is their small dynamic range (a small number of resolvable grey levels). The aim of this project is to develop the principles and technology of the grey-level thermoplastic image registration, including the development of the technology of the TM, and the principles and technology of image recording and read-out, which would allow the growth of the dynamic range of the TM to make it suitable for practical applications. This aim can be achieved on the basis of using raster TM and by manufacturing special hermetised packages with TM on a glass substratum. The following activities will be carried out: development of requirements to thermoplastic materials, based on the task and the conditions of stereo imaging from space; development and manufacturing of thermoplastic materials according to the requirements of high-resolution stereo imaging; testing thermoplastic materials; optimisation of regimes of image recording and of techniques of image read-out. A final report will be produced containing the following principal results: a definition of the photographic requirements on the thermoplastic materials for the task of stereo imaging from the space platforms; the development of a laboratory sample of raster thermoplastic materials on glass substratum suitable for grey-level image registration and information read-out; optimisation of the registration and read-out processes for the developed thermoplastic materials; the development and test of the camera prototype for thermoplastic grey-level image registration; a definition of the photographic characteristics of the developed thermoplastic materials; and the development of proposals for the design of satellite imaging instruments with thermoplastic image registration.
