Objective Gas particle suspensions, such as those occurring in fluidized beds (circulating or stationary), are used for the combustion of solid fuels. The advantages of fluidized bed combustion are low emissions and fuel flexibility. But the fluidization process is, as yet, not sufficiently well known in detail. A better knowledge of the behaviour of the suspension is fundamental to all further work on predicting the performance of processes in the reactor. Of major technical interest is the design of equipment for combustion and other chemical conversions to minimise harmful effects to the environment. The objectives of this project are to investigate the distribution of solids in combustion chambers with stationary or circulating fluidized beds, and to study the local heat transfer of gas particles suspended in a fluidized bed combustor both stationary and circulating.
