When compared to classical slurry or fixed-bed (trickle) reactors where the gaseous reactant is generally the limiting factor, the catalytic membrane reactor appears to be a good candidate in gas-liquid-solid reactions. Moreover the fact that the catalyst is part of the reactor avoids the catalyst recovery step (slurry reactor) or the possible leaching of the active phase (fixed-bed).
