Wood, land and stone - apprentices building Europe

Obiettivo

The aim of this project is to provide alternating vocational training in the building and architectural-restoration sectors with a European dimension. Only the acquisition of a new, certifiable trade-recognised skill that really improves access to employment can encourage mobility in this target group. This objective ties in well with three concerns expressed by those working in the construction industry:
- the free circulation of products and raw materials necessitates the development of complementary new skills, including language competence;
- a comparative analysis of the project's target occupations reveals that job profiles vary from one country to another;
- the deterioration of old buildings highlights the need to train construction professionals to specialise in traditional techniques.

To meet these various needs the project partners intend to:
- define common occupational features and list complementary skills specific to particular trades. These new skills will be validated by construction-industry professionals at international level;
- create a new job profile for people mastering the technical skills needed to restore heritage objects;
- produce a multimedia self-study training tool and establish a placement programme.

Impact
Improved quality of initial alternating vocational training in the construction and architectural restoration sectors, development of an effective mobility tool for a level 5 target group, creation of new professional profiles to meet industrial needs, optimisation of trainees' access to employment and creation of a European diploma for alternating initial vocational training.
