Computer-aided learning in adult basic training

Objectif

The nature of work in Europe is changing rapidly due to automation and the need for industry and services to react to market demands. This places requirements on workers at all levels to be adaptable and to have the skills to learn and transfer that learning to new situations. Without these core learning skills, workers will be marginalised. The need for training for adults in basic skills is widely recognised but there is little co-ordination of standards and programmes between countries.

This pilot project will construct a framework for the certification of learning outcomes in literacy, numeracy, social skills and learning to learn. The framework will be cross moderated by the national certification institutions of Finland, France, Ireland and Scotland. Project outcomes will include a variety of training descriptors as well as a schedule for the assessment of learning, all of which will be available to the project partners and later to the training public, through an Internet web site.

Impact
The qualifications will form part of a standard European certification designed to improve the mobility of workers through a system of transnational certification. The wide availability of materials on the Internet will open up training and employment opportunities.
