Improving training in health and safety at work in the European meat industry

Objective

This project is designed to improve training in health and safety in the European meat industry. The specific objectives are:
- to improve initial vocational training in the European meat industry with respect to occupational health and safety;
- to enhance the transfer and exchange of knowledge, experience and materials regarding training in health and safety at work;
- to develop a training strategy for the entire sector across Europe.

The project focuses on training in occupational health and safety in slaughtering and meat processing work. Qualification standards and training materials will be developed and tested among young workers entering the workforce. They will be trained to recognise hazards and prevent or reduce risks. Middle managers will also be trained in health and safety management.

Impact
The main expected impact is the integration of health and safety at work into meat industry vocational training standards, programmes and materials.
