SHINE - SOLAR HOUSING THROUGH INNOVATION FOR NATURAL ENVIRONMENT

Cel

The SHINE Thermie 96 project brings together 6 social housing organisations in 5 European countries to demonstrate solar and bioclimatic energy efficient refurbishment projects. Each of these projects is located in an urban area and has developed at least one original innovative energy saving solution, which target of 60% overall reduction in energy consumption compared with the present situation. The SHINE project also aims to demonstrate solutions which bring more comfort and improved environment for the low-income inhabitants of poorer urban area throughout Europe, and to show that these solutions are economically viable, especially for social housing organisations, and with a view to forming a basis of new European standards in the retrofit housing sector.

Considering the number of partners and countries involved in this SHINE project, this gives rise to a considerable series of innovative and environment solutions, all refering to new technologies which are already in operation.
Innovative and energy characteristics of the different projects involved in SHINE are as follow :
CITY OF READING - UK : 50 houses
- Energy savings : 118 TOE - 497203 kWH - 130 kWh/m²
- Urban strategy for low energy private refurbishment, innovative solar air pre-heating
HYDE HA - UK : 7 dwellings + 18 houses
- Energy saving : 26 TOE - 282305 kWh - 193 kWh/m²
- Specific envelop insulation, solar DHW
BOSTADS AB GARDSTEN - SE : 200 dwellings
- Energy saving :200 TOE - 1700000 kWh - 144 kWh/m²
- Roof integrated solar air collector, DHW using solar air collectors, double envelop wall units with parieto effect. BIG HEIMBAU - DE : 72 dwellings
- Energy saving : 62 TOE - 653300 kWh - 145 kWh/m²
- Glazed balconies, solar wall with controlled demand air ventilation
ODH26 - FR : 191 dwellings
- Energy saving : 131 TOE - 1521000 kWh - 120 kWh/m²
- Industrialised facade insulation panels to pre-heat fresh air, collective heat exchanger with dust filter PATRIMONIUM - NL : 384 dwellings
- Energy saving : 206 TOE - 2298221 kWh - 75 kWh/m²
- Low temperature for collective space heating and DWH, transparent insulation.
To lead each housing organisation as well as its own design team in the accomplishment of their project, the management structure of the shine project integrates Horizontal Activities through 5 specific tasks whose aim to improve and to link the 10 projects together focusing on architectural and technical expertise and exchanges; this concerns :
- environmental and material assessments
- architecture and urban integration of bioclimatic concepts and solar tools
- compared simulation and evaluation of projects + monitoring
- specific innovative technologies (daylight, passive cooling,...)
- dissemination, European level.
