COST REDUCTION AND IMPROVEMENT OF EFFICIENCY OF TERRESTRIAL SEISMIC EXPLORATION USING SINGLE MULTI-COMPONENT SENSORS AND RELATED PROCESSING

Objectif

The main aim of the project is to demonstrate that combined shear- and P-wave single sensor recording can be done efficiently. The data will be used to improve the data quality of 3D land seismic acquisition as well as to provide access to structural information through fully processed multi-component data.
The three main objectives of the project are :
- cost reduction of 3D terrestrial seismic surveys using processing based on individual multi-component sensor data,
- integrated shear wave statics determination,
- shear wave ground roll suppression and recovery of lower signal-to-noise and lower signal level for shear wave signal.
The demonstration will help implementing S- and P-wave recording and processing into characterisation and monitoring of new and old oil and gas fields.L%

The main aim of the project is to demonstrate that combined shear- and P-wave single sensor recording can be done efficiently. The data will be used to improve the data quality of 3D land seismic acquisition as well as to provide access to structural information through fully processed multi-component data.
Furthermore, a resolution versus cost analysis derived for the key geophysical factors will form the basis of a flexible acquisition system to optimize surveys for given target and economic objectives in various types of survey conditions. The introduction of multi-component recording based on single digital sensors will make multi-component seismic acquisition technically feasible and economically viable. This will be achieved by recording of single digital sensors and processing of the multi-component of 3D sensors will be used to improve the data quality. For 3D multi-component surveys the new technique will allow to directly determine the key data of hydrocarbons.
A new technique for continuous determination of the multi-component velocity profile near the surface will be integrated into the surface acquisition and the improvement demonstrated on multi-component stacked sections.
The acquisition of single sensors will make multi-component seismic acquisition viable through reduction of the overall field effort by up to 60%.The integrated statics survey method requires up to 75% less shallow statics calibration wells. Fewer individually recorded single sensors will provide at least the same or even better data quality as conventional 3D surveys. It is expected that a significant number of single sensor based acquisition systems will be built and be used in Europe as well as world wide.
