ENHANCE SEISMIC IN THRUST-BELT-AN INNOVATIVE METHODOLOGY FOR SEISMIC ACQUISITION AND PROCESSING IN THRUST-BELT ZONES

Ziel

The aim of the project is to demonstrate that the image of reservoirs in thrust belt environments can be significantly improved using an unconventional and integrated seismic acquisition and processing approach.
The improvement in the seismic acquision will be obtained by a new acquisition method allowing simultaneous acquisition of seismic reflections from near to very large offsets and by a new method for the optimal seismic source definition by using vintage data QC indicators and geoeletrical measurements.
The improvement of the seismic processing methods will come from the definition of a very accurate shallow velocity model, obtained from the geostatistical integration of different geophysical measurements and their joint processing and from the integration of seismic velocity analysis methods (time and depth velocity analysis, seismic tomography) with the inversion of magnetotelluric data as well as the combined inversion of short and large offset seismic data.
Energy technology objectives consist in the definition, through field experimentation, of a reliable and cost effective approach to the seismic exploration of thrust belt reservoirs.

The innovative aspects of this project are :
- an innovative methodology in the field of automatic and global analysis of field seismic data in shot domain.
- an innovative acquisition technique ("pluristackable line") allowing the study and optimization of some seismic acquisition parameters such as coverage, source type, offset, during processing.
- an innovative acquisition technique ("global offset") allowing to acquire very long offset seismic events simultaneously with traditional acquisition operations.
- an innovative acquisition method for seismic source position acquisition optimization, based on the integration of geoelectrical and refraction measurements.
- A new process for the determination of the shallow and deep velocity structure and for static corrections calculation.
The possibilities offered by the new approach will be demonstrated on a seismic profile in Val d'Agri (Southern Apennines- Italy) which will be acquired and processed with the integrated method proposed in the project.
This area, where ENI AGIP and Entreprise Oil have been working for several years as operators and have several seismic and well data, is particularly famous internationally both for its mining potential, and for poor quality of the 2/3D seismic image. Through the demonstration of this technology in this area, it will therefore be possible to compare the potential of technique proposed herein with the results obtained with presently available technologies.
