Objective

PROPOSAL for INCO-DEV (call identifier: ICFP599A4PROl):PROPOSAL ABSTRACT (maximum 1000 characters)Because of their high mortality and high morbidity rates, rudderpost (RP) and paste des petites ruminants (PPR) are dreaded animal diseases which are drawing back the animal production in many developing countries (Africa, Asia). They affect both domestic and wild ruminants. They belong to the list A of the Office International des Epizooties, list where highly contagious animal diseases with high economic importance are grouped. Tran boundary diseases, they are among the 6 animal diseases targeted in the EMPRESS programme. This is an FAO priority programme which aims to ensure effective prevention and progressive control of plant and animal pest's diseases to ensure world food security. n many countries, programmes are launched to control both RP and PPR by vaccination with unemotional funds support, mainly from EU. The present proposal aims to develop RP/PPR heal stable oral vaccines better adapted for mass vaccination in hot cleanable developing countries. Such vaccines, in opposite to the current ones, might be used to control RP and PPR in wildlife in game parks. Thus the expected results from this proposal will be a support of some EU developing programmes.
