Meteorological factors influencing slope stability and slope movement type : Evaluation of hazard prone areas

Cel

The evaluation of slope instability in soil and rock masses
specially related to climatic changes. Determination of slide
hazard related to climatic, geological, geomorphological and land
use conditions. Development of methods and criteria for
identification of slide prone areas. To arrive at suggestion of
principles for european guidelines on slope protection.

The project contain the following main tasks:

Collection of historical data on different types of landslides.
Collection of historical data on climatic conditions related to landslides activity.
Collection and analysis detailed and quantitative metereological data from the last
century with respect to landslides occurrence.
Selection of well documented landslides and detailed analysis.
Correlation of climatic data and release of landslides.
Collection of the state-of-the-art methods for regional instability detection.
Stability calculations for different slides.
Application of dynamic and statistical models for calculation of runout distance.
Description and evaluation of different mapping methods for slide prone areas.
Safety measures.

The project main results are as follows:

Collecting, filling and interpreting historical data on climate
conditions and landslides as well as on the reconstruction of
meteoclimatic and landslides history of a given region.

Establishing the correlation between slope instabilities and
meteoclimatic factors and final evaluation of landslides
prediction methods based on climatic factors.

Definition of criteria for the slope protection and hazard zoning
maps in different climatic regions of Europe.
