Cel The fundamental goal of this research project is the upgrading of management systems able to restore and conserve historic sites, monuments and objects. It will seek to supply the inputs of knowledge required to optimise intervention and assist in decision-making. The research focuses on the late nineteenth and early twentieth century city centres of Cairo and Aleppo. It breaks new ground in the nature of subject mater and goes hand in hand with a conservation process that has recently embarked in both cities. It will contribute to the definition of an appropriate inventory method of valuable objects, in addition to an analysis approach homing in on three levels: the area the street and the edifice; with analysis fine-tuned to building materials and techniques, and assess the economic feasibility.
