Objective The main objective of the project is to show that lowering the cost of district heating (DH) is possible by using demand side management (DSM). The project will show that the practical installation for DH DSM in a building is inexpensive and it is relatively easy to cut down and/or shift peak heating demand of a building. The objective in each test site is to cut down the peak heat consumption at peak times by 40 %. This is going to be achieved with exploiting the thermal mass of the building and its heating system by con-trolling the system properly. The project will also calculate the effects of large-scale use of DSM in many key buildings of the tested district heating systems. The project creates ways of sharing the benefit resulting from the use of DSM equally between the DH company and the end-customers.
