Open market access and security assessment system (dynamic stability of the electrical networks) (omases)

Objetivo

The liberation of the electricity market along with open access strategies push power systems to their limits for maximum economic benefit. The use in a control centre of on-line dynamic security assessment (DSA) functions in addition to the existing static ones appears to be utmost importance in order to maintain security under stringent conditions. Such DSA functions are missing so far. A main objective of the project is the development of innovative on-line DSA functions, covering both voltage and transient stability aspects, and their integration in an energy management system. This will provide the power system operator with adequate tools for computing available transfer capability (ATC) and for handling congestion management. Another asset of the project is the use of a new real-time training simulator able to simulate unstable system behaviour. This will allow validating security assessment tools and teaching operators how to face problematic power system situations. An important result will be the improved reliable management of electrical systems matching also the environmental requirement of limiting the building of transmission facilities.
