Pln-based improved combustion for low emission

Objective

Comparing other injection systems (Unit Injector, Common Rail) the characteristic inj. pressure curve during the main inj. of a PLN-System is demonstrating the best trade-off regarding efficiency and emissions. Concerning the Particulate/NOx- trade-off there is a large potential with modified initial and final phase of the inj. period using new solenoid or piezo actuators. This well known technology has to be developed and investigated to an optimal inj. system. The combustion process will be optimised including high peak cylinder pressure and EGR-technology. Experimental work is supported by modelling the hydraulics of the inj.system and the combustion process. With the flexibility of a camshaft driven inj .system the high efficiency of the diesel engine can be maintained with a low cost engine. This proposal is linked to the cluster truck engine technology.
