Objective The aim of the project is to develop test and measure, on-line, the performance of a system designed for on-line hot rails surface inspection. The design of the system will be based on advanced computer-assisted vision-techniques. The system will be built around high-speed CCD cameras and, specifically designed, lighting and image processing. The following performances of the system will be evaluated: image quality of the travelling rail obtained through the system, visibility of defects in the image and their automatic detection and classification. Generally, two types of rolling mills can be found in rail rolling mills: the conventional and the universal. Both types of mill will be considered, hence, specific defects or rolling conditions originated from either one or the other mill will be taken into examined.Contracts numbers: 7210-PA/172 7210-PB/172 7210-PC/172 7210-PD/172 Programme(s) ECSC-STEEL C - Medium-term guidelines for the ECSC steel RTD programme of research and pilot/demonstration projects, 1996-2002 Topic(s) T4 - On-line control Call for proposal Data not available Funding Scheme CSC - Cost-sharing contracts Coordinator INSTITUT DE RECHERCHES DE LA SIDERURGIE FRANÇAISE EU contribution No data Address Immeuble 'PACIFIC', La Défense 7 11/13 Cours Valmy 92800 Puteaux France See on map Total cost No data Participants (3) Sort alphabetically Sort by EU Contribution Expand all Collapse all BRITISH STEEL United Kingdom EU contribution No data Address 15, Marlebone Road NW1 5JD LONDON See on map Total cost No data SOGERAIL France EU contribution No data Address 164 rue Maréchal Foch 57705 HAYANGE See on map Total cost No data THYSSEN SCHIENEN TECHNIK Germany EU contribution No data Address Kaiser-Wilhem-Straße 100 47161 DUISBURG See on map Total cost No data
