Actions providing access to DASP technology for digital designing of Microwave and Radio Frequency IST systems

Objectif

The Actions for developing/activating services in provision of access to the generic Digital Alias-free Signal Processing (DASP) technology represent the essence of the EURODASP project. DASP is an advanced technology for DSP system design and cost-effective processing of signals digitally in a wide dynamic range and in considerably extended frequency range. This technology is especially attractive for microwave and Radio Frequency designs by replacing analog subsystems by substantially more effective digital ones. For signal frequencies upto 2-3 GHz. EURODASP is aimed at development and activation of an infrastructure for consulting, information dissemination, training, prototyping and small-volume manufacturing services for the European IST Community to the DASP technology. The project covers development of material basis of these services (typical DASP modules, ASICs, documentation, training courseware etc.).

Objectives:
The basic objective of EURODASP is to open up and provide access to the novel Digital Alias-free Signal Processing (DASP) technology having significant advantages for digital microwave and Radio Frequency designs. The project is aimed at: development and activation of an infrastructure for consulting, information dissemination, training, prototyping and small-volume manufacturing services providing access for the European IST Community to the wideband digitalisation DASP technology including development of the material basis of these services; drawing attention to the potential of this technology by demonstrating the capability of DASP subsystems to solve signal processing problems under conditions where similar classic DSP products are inapplicable; establishing collaboration with at least 12 industrial companies where application of the DASP technology would lead to substantial system quality improvements; developing typical DASP

Work description:
An infrastructure for consulting, information dissemination, training, prototyping and small-volume manufacturing services providing access for the European IST Community to the wideband digitalisation DASP technology will be set up. DASP demonstrations, Training and Distance Learning will be carried out to draw attention of the industry to the possibility of achieving substantial quality improvement and cost reductions by using special DASP techniques. Establishing close cooperation with at least 12 industrial companies, focused on introduction of various DASP technology elements into their product designs, is targeted. It is essential both for dissemination of this technology and for obtaining the industrial feedback needed to define specifications of typical DASP hardware and software modules. To ensure progress in introduction of the DASP technology, training services, including Distance Learning, will be organized for the end-user personnel. DASP Design Support will be provided for end-users of this technology. The consulting service will be developed and provided to help achieve by the end-users good DASP application results. That includes computer simulations often needed for that. The DASP knowledge will be arranged and represented in a standardized format by developing DASP design supporting documentation like various DASP Application Guides. Access to typical DASP Designs will be provided. Typical DASP hardware/software modules will be selected and their assortment gradually enlarged, supporting technical documentation developed and supplied. A DASP application best practice show-case in the area of high precision signal digitizing will be organized on the basis of the industrial partner. The essence of the problem to be solved is achievement of an extremely wide-dynamic range (140dB targeted) signal digitising. DASP ASIC Development Service will be provided for the interested end-users as well as prototyping and small-volume production services.

Milestones:
Two Milestones after 12 and 24 months are set up.

At milestone 1: DASP Lab System will be updated; DASP design Application Guides prepared; support, consulting and ASIC design infrastructure established.
At milestone 2: demonstrations will be carried out; DASP training started; wide dynamic range digitiser tested; DASP typical blocks and their ASIC design projects prepared; EURODASP services network established. EURODASP services will be continued after the project as self-supporting enterprise.
