Nonideal turbulence

Objective

The training that this network offers to young scientists is unique. The nature of research in turbulence requires a close interaction between theoretical, experimental and numerical methods and therefore supplies a broad training of young scientists in a series of forefront issues such as parallel computing, optical measurements and various methods from theoretical physics and applied mathematics. Indeed, students and post-docs trained in fluid dynamics are sought after by academic environments and high-tech firms alike. This holds in particular for computational fluid dynamics which, due to cost efficiency, is becoming the first step in designing new process technologies, engines, cars, power plants, pumps, or even new materials. The engagement of Shell in this joint scientific proposal also documents the industry 's interest in a good training of young scientists in this field.
