Shortening lead times and improving quality by innovative upgrading of the lost foam process (FOAMCAST)

Ziel

It is vital that the EU iron castings producers upgrade product quality to meet demands for lighter weight castings to remain competitive. This project involving 5 member and associated states will enable the benefits of the lost foam process i.e. high quality, excellent surface finish and definition, much reduced processing costs, and increased design flexibility to be fully realised. It will also provide a much needed low cost entry route, define best practices, and develop prototype software which will eliminate the need for high cost, time consuming, trial and error proving exercises. The objective is to increase competitiveness by reducing casting reject levels by 20% and lead time and post processing costs by 50% each. The project will retard the further errors on of employment levels in a major industry sector.
