Human interaction with large scale coastal morphological evolution (HUMOR)

Ziel

The overall objective is to develop reliable assessment and forecasting techniques to better understand, model and predict the physical and geomorphological processes governing medium and long-term natural changes of the coastal zone, including the impact of anthropogenic activities. The emphasis here is on the role that large-scale morphological features play in long-term coastal evolution. Existing analysis and predictive tools will be extended and improved; data sets from different sources will be compiled and analysed in order to quantify the properties of key morphological parameters of large-scale features. These parameters will be used to calibrate the tools derived from physical considerations and to assess the morpho-dynamics of large-scale features. Results will be used to address common coastal and harbour management questions, looking for long-term economic and environmentally viable integrated management strategies, which will be applied to a single cell.
